What Floor Coverings Work Best with FloorLyft Ultra?
When selecting underlayment, FloorLyft Ultra stands out for its versatility, performance, and eco-friendly design. But which flooring materials truly benefit from pairing with this premium fiberboard underlayment? Let’s dive in.
What Is FloorLyft Ultra?
FloorLyft Ultra is a 6 mm rigid fiberboard panel underlayment constructed from 100% recycled fibers. It offers acoustic dampening, thermal insulation (R‑value ~0.73), and built-in moisture protection, all without VOCs, making it a sustainable and high-performing choice for both floating and glue-down installations.
It’s designed to:
- Raise the subfloor slightly, eliminating room-to-room transition gaps and trip hazards
- Reduce impact noise (IIC ~56) and airborne transmission (STC ~52), improving comfort in multi-level homes
- Provide moisture resistance, especially critical over concrete or basement subfloors

Installation Guidance: Ensuring Compatibility
General Guidelines:
- FloorLyft Ultra can be floated or glued depending on the flooring type and thickness.
- For floating flooring ≥ 4 mm thick, you may float the panels or glue them; both methods yield strong results.
- For floating flooring under 4 mm thick, and for any glue-down flooring, FloorLyft Ultra must be glued down.
Installation Tips:
- Lay panels perpendicular to your finished flooring direction.
- Stagger seams by 50% (brick pattern) to create a smooth, supportive surface.
- Leave a ¼” expansion gap along walls and tape seams when floating.
- For glue-down scenarios, apply adhesive to both the subfloor and underlayment, then roll panels to secure full adhesion (75–100 lb roller recommended).
- Ensure your subfloor meets moisture and flatness standards: wood ≤12% moisture, concrete ≥60 days old and <5 lb moisture emission per specs.
Why FloorLyft Outperforms Foam or Basic Pads
FloorLyft Ultra delivers superior impact absorption and acoustic performance compared to foam underlayments, especially valuable in multi-family homes or upstairs rooms.
