QuietBoard Under Residential Broadloom Stretch-In Carpet
Standards regarding tackstrip, padding/cushion, and installation methods for residential carpet are established by the Carpet and Rug Institute and can be found by visiting here.
Recommended Method
1. Lay QuietBoard film side up over the subfloor with a 50/50 staggered offset on the long side of the panels. Maintain a ⅛” to ¼” perimeter around the room at the walls.
2. Tape all the seams of QuietBoard with minimum 2” wide duct tape or underlayment tape.
3. Install carpet tack strip around the perimeter of the room. Ensure the nails in the tackstrip penetrate securely into the subfloor. Depending on the length of the nails included with the tackstrip, you may need to add longer nails to ensure your tack is secure.
4. Install your carpet padding. You can staple into the QuietBoard to tack the padding in place.
5. Stretch-in your carpet per manufacturer’s recommendations, or if unavailable use methods approved by the Carpet and Rug Institute.
Alternative Method
If tackstrip is already installed, you can install the QuietBoard within the perimeter of the tackstrip. Keep in mind, thicker pads or carpets with specialty backings may add challenges when trying to secure the carpet to the tackstrip utilizing this method.
1. With tackstrip in place, lay QuietBoard film side up over the subfloor with a 50/50 staggered offset on the long side of the panels. Maintain a ⅛” to ¼” perimeter between QuietBoard and tackstrip.
2. Tape all the seams of QuietBoard with minimum 2” wide duct tape or underlayment tape.
3. Install your carpet padding. You can staple into the QuietBoard to tack the padding in place.
4. Stretch-in your carpet per manufacturer’s recommendations, or if unavailable use methods approved by the Carpet and Rug Institute.
5. The added height to the carpet assembly may result in a more sloped appearance at the perimeter, or more challenges in securing the carpet on the tackstrip.
